Canon 3170 Technical Support Tech tip Answers

The Canon 3170 fax machine is a very versatile business class fax machine.   Listed below are troubleshooting tips to help you with any problems you may encounter. Answer1) There is a substance such as whiteout (blank vertical line) or paper residue (black vertical line) on the ADF scanner glass. Take an alcohol wipe and clean ADF scanner glass Answer 2)  First change the toner cartridge and see if this corrects the problem. If this does not fix the problem, more than likely the machine has a bad fuser. Replace the fuser or have your service representative replace it for you. Answer 3)  Clean off the upper and lower separation rollers, and upper ADF pickup roller, or replace them. These roller are like an automotive tire, eventually they will wear out and become very slick causing the ADF unit to paper misfeed or grab multiple pages. Feed roller parts to replace are HB1-5284 -000 and HB1-3899-000. Answer 4)  Remove paper jam. If paper jamming continues replace fuser. Answer 5) Check paper guides to make sure paper is set correctly .in the paper cassette. Check paper feed rollers and make sure they don't feel worn. If worn replace the feed rollers Answer 6) Replace toner cartridge, it may be empty or the smart chip on the cartridge may be defective. Answer 7)    Check paper guides for correct paper size.
